About the Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) Program

The Niagara Regional Police Service, in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, will again offer the Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) Program as part of our ongoing strategy to address the growing needs of our youth.

 

Goals

  • To provide a safe and positive summer employment opportunity for youth that is reflective of the cultural diversity of the community.
  • To enhance relationships between police and the communities they serve by developing a positive working relationship.
  • To promote youth participation and exposure to the work environment through diverse, educational, and productive work assignments with the police service.
  • To promote the Niagara Regional Police Service as an employer of choice.

 

What to Expect

  • The Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) is a Ministry of the Children Community Social Services and Niagara Regional Police Service funded program. This is an eight (8) week summer employment opportunity offered to youth (between the ages of 16 and 18 years) from priority populations and those who reflect the cultural diversity of Niagara Region.
  • The 2024 NRPS YIPI program will include a select number of youth in partnership with the Safety Village that will have the YIPI participants assist with two 1-week summer youth camp programs.

 

Workdays

  • Workdays begin at 8:00 am and will conclude at 4:00 pm.
  • YIPI students will be reporting to the Safety Village located at 100 Niagara College Blvd in the City of Welland or Niagara Regional Police Welland Station located at 5 Lincoln St in the City of Welland.
  • YIPI students will be responsible for transportation at the beginning and end of their workday.
  • Your YIPI student will not have access to their personal cellphone/ electronic devices while working. They will have access at their scheduled lunch break.
